Performance Ignition Coils & Spark Plugs
Ignition is the single most overlooked tuning component. When you add boost, raise compression, or run alternative fuels (E85, methanol), the factory ignition system runs out of energy before the cylinder fully ignites — causing misfires, loss of power, and pre-ignition. SP Engineering carries OE-replacement and high-output ignition components for street, track and high-boost builds.

When to Upgrade Coils & Plugs
Stock coils are usually adequate to ~400whp on most platforms. Above that, upgrade to high-energy coils (Okada Plasma Direct, MSD Blaster, AEM Smart Coil). Step down plug heat range one step for every 75–100hp added (e.g., NGK 7 to NGK 8 to NGK 9). Tight gap (0.022–0.026 inches) prevents blow-out under high boost. Refresh plugs every 10,000–20,000 miles for boosted cars.
